General Election 2024: Lois Austin – Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition

Who will you vote for on 4th July? To help you make up your mind, Newham Voices asked the parties to tell our readers what they are offering. Here is Lois Austin of the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition’s reply.

The working class has been let down. On housing, on the NHS and local services, on Gaza. Nothing works properly – yet the rich keep getting richer.

We’ll all be glad to see the Tories out, but Keir Starmer’s Labour doesn’t fight for us. In West Ham and Beckton you can tell them all what you think by voting for a socialist, working-class fighter instead of another career politician.

As a trade unionist and member of the Socialist Party, I’ve fought in Newham against austerity, privatisation, racism and war for decades. I’m standing again as part of the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition to give the working class a voice. You’ve seen us on the Gaza marches, anti-cuts protests and workers’ picket lines.

We fought to save City Farm and stop council cuts and rent hikes. We called from the start for an unconditional ceasefire, and campaign for trade union action to stop arming Israel. We stand for rent controls and mass building of council homes. We fight for renationalising and investing in all utilities and public services. And for a new, mass party of the working class, to take the wealth off the 1 percent – for socialist change.

Find out more at socialistparty.org.uk or at the public meeting, Monday 1 July at 7.30pm, Winsor House Brewers Fayre, 1 Woolwich Manor Way, Beckton E6 5NT.

Lois is standing in West Ham and Beckton.
