Who will you vote for on 4th July? To help you make up your mind, Newham Voices asked the parties to tell our readers what they are offering. Here is the Newham Independents reply.
The elections on July 4th, including both the general election and the local by-elections, are fundamentally about choosing hope over fear. Labour, both nationally and locally, seems intent on maintaining the status quo. Their national policy offerings are so similar to the Tories that they are almost indistinguishable. Locally, Labour has held power in Newham for decades, resulting in repeated broken promises.
Newham is weary of these empty promises and desires real change, which is exactly what we are offering. Our vision is for a Newham with greater investment in public services that are genuinely fit for purpose. We propose a clear departure from the gimmicks of Mayor Fiaz and a focus on addressing the real issues that matter to Newham residents. Unlike local Labour politicians, who are answerable to Westminster, we are committed to listening to and acting on the concerns of residents. This was evident in local Labour’s failure to condemn Keir Starmer’s statement that Israel has the right to deny water and power to Gaza. If they cannot speak out on such a critical issue, how can we expect them to challenge less significant matters?
On July 4th, give hope a chance, Vote for the Newham Independents.
