Michael ‘Mickey J’ Asante and Kenrick ‘H20’ Sandy founded the hip-hop dance theatre company Boy Blue in 2001.

Mikey was born in Forest Gate and lived in Manor Park.

Boy Blue are guest Artistic Directors of the National Youth Dance Company this year and they have created Gravity a new production for the company. Mickey told Newham Voices: “The Performance evolved through our first set of workshops with the young dancers, there was a pull amongst them, a gravity and momentum from them.”

National Youth Dance Company (NYDC) are performing an extract of Gravity on 25 July at Sadler’s Wells East Stratford.
