Creative Industries Festival in September features 40 free events spanning filmmaking, devising, funding, publishing and more. The festival, hosted by the University of East London’s (UEL) School of Arts and Creative Industries (ACI), is designed to showcase projects and open doors for the next generation of creatives.

Newham u3a’s talk and coffee is a personal memoir of the Chinese Community in East London (circa 1970). This event is open to members, and non-members are welcome on a one off ‘taster’ basis. 4 September, 2 – 3.30pm, meeting room 2 of East Ham library

Greenwich and Docklands International Festival annual celebration of outdoor dance returns to Newham. Dancing City takes place across Stratford Town Centre, East Bank and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 6 September: http://festival.org/gdif

West Ham and Beckton Conservatives are organising a memorial service to mark the 85th anniversary of a tragic incident during the Second World War. On 10 September 1940 at the South Hallsville School in Canning Town during a bombing raid the school was hit, killing at least 70 people, but the incident was covered up. It remained a secret for 70 years. Newham Heritage Centre is organising a drop-in collage workshop, with Newham Heritage Service, to help create a huge community artwork. All materials will be provided.
