A centre that was opened by the Queen herself in 1983 will be the setting for a special community tea to celebrate her platinum jubilee.
Linda DeLaunay, Administrator at St Bartholomew’s church and centre, East Ham, told me that one aim of the event, being held in the community cafe, is to bring the various groups using the centre together. This includes the regular café customers, the regular churchgoers, and others who attend specific groups.
The tea will be on Wednesday 1 June, 1pm to 4pm. The event is free but tickets must be booked.
The Centre was officially opened by the Queen herself, in December 1983. Older generation users still remember this, with much pride and pleasure.
