The historic Tate Institute in Silvertown opens its doors to world-class South Asian classical music presented by KalaSudha.

On Wednesday, 19 August (6:00 PM – 9:00 PM), 4-time Grammy-nominated bansuri (bamboo flute) master Pandit Ajay Prasanna will lead an interactive, 3-hour community workshop. The evening before he plays the London Ragas concert at the same Venue.

Four Grammy nominations, the Global Indian Music Award, a bansuri on the Gorillaz album Parvat (The Mountain), and a diary that leaves little room for teaching. He carries the Banaras Gharana flute lineage of his father, Pandit Bholanath Prasanna, whose students include Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. That is the tradition you will sit in front of at The Tate Institute: bamboo, six holes, and a way of shaping breath into a raga handed down inside one family for three generations.

A rare masterclass open to all skill levels and instruments (flute, sitar, violin, piano, guitar, or voice). Participants will learn breath control, swara, raga phrasing (meend and kan), and rhythm (taal) from a master in the Banaras Gharana lineage. Includes 1-on-1 feedback, open Q&A, a certificate of participation, and access to KalaSudha’s digital learning platform.

The following evening, Thursday, 20 August (7:00 PM – 9:00 PM), Pandit Ajay Prasanna takes the stage alongside renowned tabla artist Kayam Hussain for an intimate “London Ragas-Breath into Sound” concert. Fresh off his feature on the Gorillaz album Parvat (The Mountain), Pandit Prasanna will bring meditative, soulful raga melodies to East London for an evening centered on cultural connection, mindfulness, and community.
