Neandra Etienne on next month’s culture, history and heritage in Newham

Standing Firm in Power and Pride, a month-long celebration of heritage, resilience, creativity, and community for Newham Black History Month includes film screenings, talks and performances, family activities, creative workshops and community markets.

Miss & Mr Philippines UK, a celebration of Filipino culture founded in the late 1970s by Mrs Eva Macadangdang, takes place on 4 October, at The Royal Regency in Manor Park. Tickets are available via Eventbrite. @philippinesuk

Charlynne Bryan and Yvonne Murray from Newham Poetry Group have written a new poetry collection, Partners in Rhyme. They said: “As two Black poets, we are deeply committed to inspiring and uplifting people through the power of words. Launching our collection during Black History Month holds special significance, as it is both a celebration of our voices and an opportunity to share poetry that speaks to resilience, creativity, and community.” 25 October, 2pm – 5pm, Stratford Library Newham Poetry Group

UCL’s exhibition Space Tangle, for World Space Week, brings together three distinct works by artist Dr Sarah Fortais; Cosmic Debris, Cosmic Flock, and Lunga 6. Each explores the entanglements between people, place, animals, and materials that shape how we imagine and make future worlds.
