Metro Cinema no-go for Stratford

A local community group may take over the former Picturehouse site after Metro’s takeover plan fell through.

Hopes that Metro Cinema would take over the deserted film venue space vacated by The Picturehouse in Theatre Square, Stratford, appear to have come to nothing. This week Newham Voices was told that a plan for Metro to take over the building which was home to the former Pictureshous until last month had failed. The future is uncertain, but the empty space may now go to a local community organisation it is understood.


No news is bad news 

Independent news outlets like ours – reporting for the community without rich backers – are under threat of closure, turning British towns into news deserts.
