Newham’s year six students surpass national averages in reading, writing, and maths, ranking fourth in the country.

Newham’s year six school children are fourth nationally when it comes to reading, writing and maths, according to latest government figures.
The national average for achieving expected standards or better in these subjects is 61 percent compared with 72 percent in Newham, Department for Education SATs test data on 11-year-olds across 153 local authorities show.
Councillor Sarah Ruiz, the Council’s lead on education, described it as an “incredible achievement” reflecting the dedication of pupils, teachers and schools.
