Newham Boys Boxing Club veteran Joey Chapman’s work for Newham’s community was recognised by royalty on 8th May when he joined the King and other Royal Family members at the annual Buckingham Palace garden party. Joey’s commitment to the sport over the last 43 years began when he started work at the club with his father, the founder. He took over when his father died. He had a very successful amateur career, winning national titles and representing England abroad. Now, aged 70, he continues to run the club, spending six days a week there. As usual, it’s not for money, but because he loves seeing the youth of Newham achieve their potential.
