Spring 2024 has shaped up well for Newham’s music creatives, reports Neandra Etienne

Newham musicians Ghetts, J Hus, Flowdan and 21 Savage have been making their mark at the music industry awards.
Forest Gate born MC and Producer Flowdan became the first UK grime MC to win a GRAMMY award (4 February). He won Best Dance/Electronic Recording for Rumble the song he collaborated on with Fred Again and Skrillex.
Ghetts was the recipient of the MOBO Pioneer Award (7 February). He also performed his latest single Double Standards (featuring Sampha), from his new album On Purpose, With Purpose out 23 February.
Plaistow born British-American rapper 21 Savage and Drake were awarded the Best International Act (US) at the MOBO Awards.
J Hus, from Stratford, was nominated for four BRIT Awards, which took place on 2nd March. He was nominated in the categories for Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best hip-hop/grime/rap act. He previously won the BRIT Award for Male Solo Artist in 2021.
