This year West Ham Park will be 150 years old and to prepare for Newham Heritage Month in June there are plans for a project to celebrate this milestone.

Members of Friends of West Ham Park are inviting people to join their mission to capture the heart and soul of the park through local stories, acknowledging the rich tapestry of experiences that shape our collective memory.

These memories will come to life in a radio show, a short film, and a memory walk and art trail. There will also be a display of archive photos and people are invited to share their own images of park mlife over the years.

In particular, there is an appeal for five individuals to take part in conversations about their experiences in the park and their memories of things that have physically changed. Contributions will be acknowledged, and people taking part will receive copies of recordings, radio show and film.

There will be a June Newham Heritage Month event in the park, open to all. All the stories will find a home on the Newham Heritage Month website and in the Newham Archive for future generations to explore. People who are interested can keep up with the project on the Newham Heritage Month website in the coming weeks.
