The Price of a coffee cup can help Newham children have a happier Christmas

We appeal to anyone who would want to give up the amount you would pay for a cup of tea/coffee and donate that amount to a small gift.  We are asking for small things, like: gloves, pencils, socks, scarves, children’s underwear, hats, wrapping paper, Christmas crackers.

Due to the pandemic, many families are being furloughed and we need to assist with the hardship our local families are experiencing. Boxes need to be filled by the 15th December and donations in before the 10th December.

We know from local schools that as many as 1 in 8 children are living in extreme poverty. Some have suffered Covid deaths in the family, loss of employment and even domestic violence. Coupled with the mental stress of the lockdown, many children are trying to process what is happening in their lives.

In schools, the events that would normally be fun and memorable for young children, cannot take place. No Christmas concert, no Christmas disco, no nativity, no trips to the pantomime at the local theatre etc.  Schools are trying to substitute alternatives in their bubbles but it is hard as they are also banned from singing under the Covid rules.

Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated. We would obviously like to donate to more schools.

Drops off is at The Scout Hall, Evesham Road, Stratford. E15 4AL, from 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm, Thursday 3rd December and Thursday 10th December
