Letter to the Editor of Newham Voices,

I stumbled across the pilot issue of Newham Voices at the LBN council office in Dockside. It was a breath of fresh air as it was very recent, the name ‘NV’ very catchy and the articles were interesting reading from front to back – teaming with life and colour. I was eager to get in touch for two reasons. Firstly, to sign up for the free writing for publication course and to inquire about advertising a unique and exciting project am involved in – Kids Time Workshop.

I am now writing to you as part of an exercise for this training.

In the article entitled ‘Building for the future’ by Aidan White, it was encouraging to learn about the innovative approaches planned for the future for LBN housing. However, the Housing Fact File column caught my interest and I was keen to think about some form of relief to ease the distress for families affected. The third and by extension fourth, and fifth fact files caught my attention as a Health Visitor who very regularly witnesses first-hand the significant negative impact of these hazards on families with young children.

I would like to suggest that in the follow up article, a section to include information and advice about realistic DIY and other actions to manage damp and mould growth and contact details for the Family Information Service (FIS) as the key source for reliable, emotional, practical and social support for families affected by poverty would be useful.
