When I read the article regarding the Jimi Hendrix plaque being taken down during a refurbish, I was enlightened as I had not known about the recognition of his work being on display within the borough.
I feel it’s important to celebrate and highlight the work of music icons who have made a difference within the industry. Jimi Hendrix was globally known and truly made his imprint on history.
Neandra Etienne, who wrote the article, is to be congratulated for following through with her enquiries, it sounds like she left no stone unturned. We as a community should follow her lead in making sure when possible that significant parts of history are not thrown away and forgotten.
To have an unveiling ceremony for the plaque will bring with it reflection possibly raising awareness in our minds of other artists old and new who may have showcased within Newham.
This leads me to wonder if there could be a host of unrecognised but notable musicians past and present who may have frequented the borough and felt inspiration.
Perhaps if we dig a little deeper, just like Neandra, there could well be more to discover,
