A fire at a Plaistow Scott House apartment block in Queens Road West on 21 October has led to a safety warning over the dangers of lithium-ion batteries. The blaze was started accidently, but caused extensive damage and residents were evacuated after a battery on an ebike failed. The London Fire Brigade has shared advice for charging lithium-ion batteries on their website, including reducing the risk of overheating.

The problem of risk in the use of lithium-ion batteries has led to a campaign for a new law that would classify lithium-ion batteries used to power e-bikes and e-scooters as high-risk, requiring thirdparty certification in future.
