The UK charity have opened their second community meal in Newham, Neandra Etienne

FoodCycle volunteers served their first community meal in Plaistow on 16th October.
UK charity FoodCycle tackle food poverty, loneliness and food waste by turning excess food that would have gone to landfill, into free community meals. Their Plaistow meals are the second FoodCycle community meal to open in Newham.
FoodCycle Regional Manager for East London, Jan Gazda said: “There is a high demand for free food provision for local people in Newham, particularly as the high cost of living continues to affect everything from fuel bills to food costs.”
FoodCycle is also appealing for volunteers at the new FoodCycle Plaistow community meal, and their other projects across the city.
Olivier, a volunteer at FoodCycle Plaistow and East Ham community meals, told Newham Voices, “For me, it’s just great to do what I enjoy – cooking, while having fun and it’s fantastic to see happy guests thanking us at the end of each session.”
Roles include cooking, hosting or helping run the project, for which you need to be available for four-hours on any day you volunteer. Drivers or cyclists are also needed to help collect food, which requires you to have your own transport.
Volunteers don’t need to have prior qualifications because the relevant training and guidance will be provided.
