The latest meeting of Newham Older Person’s Reference Group heard about phone scams and more reports Peter Landman

The latest meeting of the Older Persons Reference Group, the forum for elderly people sponsored by East London Age UK was attended by 56 people who were offered information from a variety of organisations on display.
The Transport Police, East London Foundation Trust, Cost of Living Support, Arthritis Action, and Gerry O’Kello London Borough of Newham Service Commissioner.
A leaflet from the police The Little Booklet of Phone Scams described fraudsters’ tactics and reminded people that their own bank will never ask people to carry out transactions on their behalf.
Susan Downing from the East London Foundation Trust spoke on how to make limited money go further focusing mainly on household expenditure, with control through a household budget, and benefit entitlement.
As a result of a recent meeting with Newham Council, Reference Group organiser Grace Patient agreed to set up elections for a steering group.
