Ghetts’ commitment to self-improvement in all areas of life is captured in his forthcoming album On Purpose with Purpose. The Mercury Prize 2024 shortlisted album, which features several guests including fellow Newham musician Kano, incorporates elements of his wider musical influences such as soul, R&B, gospel, Afrobeat and Amapiano. Ghetts, from Newham, told his social media followers, “BIG THANK YOU TO Mercury Prize for nominating ON PURPOSE WITH PURPOSE. I am genuinely overwhelmed having two albums back to back up for the same award. Also big thank you to all my team behind the scenes that helped bring this masterpiece to life.”

The Mercury Prize promotes the best of UK and Irish music and the artists who produce it. The Prize has no categories and is open to all genres of music. The 12 shortlisted Mercury Prize 2024: Albums of the Year artists receive a specially commissioned ‘Album of the Year’ trophy, with the overall winner also receiving a winner trophy and a cash prize of £25,000.

The Mercury Prize 2024: Album of the Year TV programme will be filmed at Abbey Road Studios and broadcast live on BBC Four from 8pm on Thursday 5 September. BBC Radio 6 Music will also be broadcasting ‘Mercury Prize 2024 Live’ from 7pm to 11pm.
