Jazanne Arts bring their show ‘Musical Memories’ to Newham, writes Neandra Etienne

Jazanne Arts CIC professional interactive show ‘Musical Memories’ is touring in Newham.
The show, part funded by the Arts Council England and the City Bridge Foundation, features their popular characters Esme, from Jamaica played by Jazanne Arts Director Jacqui and Elsie from London, played by Jazanne Arts Director Annie.
The show uses people’s real life experiences taken from conversations that Jazanne Arts had with older people in Newham. Themes explored in the play include; schooldays, moving, friendship, courting and weddings, migration, work, discrimination and prejudice. There are three versions; A show for mixed audiences that includes storytelling and dialogue, singing and dancing. A version for people living with advanced dementia and a show targeted at Caribbean audiences with more Caribbean music and stories.
A local resident at Hibiscus Lodge told Newham Voices he “thoroughly enjoyed” the play.
22th August, 2pm, Mixed show, free entry, Memorial Church, 387 Barking Road, E13 8AL
