A Newham Heritage Blue Plaque will commemorate Newham Black Performing and Visual Arts Workshop, reports Neandra Etienne.
Newham African Caribbean Heritage Reference Group and I are collaborating to commemorate Newham Black Performing and Visual Arts Workshop with a Newham Heritage Blue Plaque.
The unveiling ceremony will honour the work and legacy of the Workshop with an exhibition, poetry, music, performance from Iroko Theatre Company, panel discussion and light refreshments.
The workshop was founded in 1982 by Tony Cheeseman, Pearla Boyce, Harian Henry, Peter Mavunga and Nathalie Pierre for African Caribbean young people to develop their talents.
It has nurtured the creative talent of local young people, provided space for other local African Caribbean groups to meet, held events and brought the play Ragamuffin to Theatre Royal Stratford East.
17th June, 2pm-6pm, 627-633 Barking Rd, E13 9EZ https://www.newhamheritagemonth.org/events/a-newham-heritage-blue-plaque-unveiling-event/
