The council has cleaned 2,100 signs in the last six months
Newham Council has warned drivers that they will get parking tickets if they park illegally in bays where signage has been vandalised.
And the Council is also working with the police to secure prosecutions against anyone identified as responsible for the criminal act of vandalising notices.
Following our story last month, a Council spokesperson told Newham Voices that in the past seven months they have taken “robust and on-going action to tackle this problem”, cleaning 2,100 signs and issuing over 4000 warnings to motorists parked in bays with defaced signage to make clear that if they continue to park illegally, penalty notices will be issued.
“Drivers who don’t heed these warnings are receiving PCNs,” the spokesperson added.
“Residential parking zones (RPZs) are for the benefit of the people who live in these streets, and who pay to ensure they are able to park their vehicles close to home. However a small number of people have been vandalising signs in the mistaken belief that doing so will allow them to park wherever they like. This isn’t the case.”
