St Bons ran out to a comfortable win, reports Neandra Etienne
Over the Easter break St Bonaventure’s travelled to the England Basketball National Performance Centre in Bellevue to contest the Dynamik under 16 Premier National Schools Final against Holy Trinity from Sussex.
In a nervous, tetchy start where Holy Trinity built 12 points in the second quarter, St Bon’s struggled to find their rhythm. At half-time St Bon’s re-focused and made a few tactical adjustments, which enabled them to play more freely.
Captain Augustus Keturakis led the way with 28 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. In the third quarter, as the tempo increased, St Bon’s turned the large deficit around to lead their opponents by 10 half-way into the period, a 24 point swing.
Outstanding inside play by Folarin Oguntase and Akello Bascom posed problems that Holy Trinity couldn’t answer, both players amassing four blocks each and a total of 66 points in the paint to underline their dominance on the day. The Banjoko brothers, David and Daniel, worked tirelessly at both ends of the court to build the St Bon’s lead, with Daniel ultimately winning the MVP title with 22 points. In the end St Bons ran out comfortable winners 95-76.
