A Newham councillor is running the London Marathon in support of parents separated from children

Imam Haque, a Newham councillor for East Ham, is running the London Marathon on 2st April to support Age UK, a charity that looks after the well being of millions of older people.
This will be his fifth marathon and the third for Age UK. Imam is using the event to highlight in particular the pain felt by many migrant residents who separate from their parents when they come to live in the UK.
“Age UK charity provides excellent support to elderly residents throughout the UK and in Newham,” he says. “I have dedicated this run to my parents and other parents who are away from their children. I am an immigrant and away from my parents who are living In India.” He says that his own story is familiar to many immigrants.
“Running for AGE UK and fundraising for them provides me with the opportunity to do more for our elderly residents and to show my respect and care to my parents,” he said.
