Mayour of Newham frustrated with failure of landlord to support traders

The campaign to reopen the Village Market in Stratford has stalled with the Mayor of Newham Rokhsana Fiaz expressing frustration over the failure of the current landlord UNEX to support the 60 local traders who were evicted from the market attached to the Stratford Shopping Centre in January.
Fiaz says she has had a series of meetings with the traders suffering since Market Village closed abruptly in January.
“I met with them again this week,” she said in her weekly newsletter. “We are all frustrated by the unwillingness of UNEX, the landlord, to help support the traders during this agonising time as they face the loss of their livelihoods.”
She said the Council would support traders putting pressure on UNEX to accept their responsibility in reopening the market which has served residents in Newham for 30 years.
