Rosetta Arts celebrates 30th anniversary with local community.
By Neandra Etienne
Cllr Rohit Kumar Dasgupta and Rosetta Arts chief Jan de Schynkel unveiled Rosetta Arts 30th anniversary mural at the Gainsborough Centre on 3 November.
The artwork features the different elements that make up Rosetta Arts and the community.
Francesco Mazzarella from London College of Fashion UAL introduced a film about his project Decolonising Fashion. Rosetta Arts has worked with him several times on this project: holding workshops at Rosetta Arts with refugees; Lab E20 loaned their community quilt made up by lots of different people and community groups; a display featuring fashion designer Lee Alexander McQueen CBE; students’ work from Rosetta Arts and Caramel Rock. Past student Shama Kun displayed her work and demonstrated cloth weaving. Shama currently has a workspace studio at Rosetta Arts.
Jan de Schynkel said: “As part of a series of projects to celebrate Rosetta Arts’ 30th anniversary year, we commissioned a public artwork by acclaimed photomontage artist, Eleanor Shakespeare, celebrating the special connection between Rosetta Arts and renowned designer Alexander McQueen, but also to celebrate our fashion work and partnerships throughout the last 30 years.”
