Girl Guides and Brownies back on track

As lockdown fades from memory, it’s great to witness young people falling back into regular routines and once again attending their favourite clubs, which for many girls in Newham means Girl Guiding.

The Guides run a number of clubs throughout Newham organised according to age: Rainbows 5-7; Brownies 7-10: Guides 10-14; and Rangers 14+.

Girl Guiding clubs offer the opportunity for friendship bonding, skill building, adventurous trips, cultural learning, arts and crafts and so much more. One of the highlights of Guides is the ongoing support given by the volunteer leaders to help each attendee earn badges and develop into confident young women.

The ultimate Brownie goal is the Gold Award. Once in-person classes returned, Imaani Hussain, 11, achieved the Gold Award after working on the badge Guide curriculum. Imaani has now moved up to the next level of Guides.
