Great Women Who Changed The World

It’s not often you get that dancing feeling, but seeing the play Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World  at Stratford East almost brought me to my feet. I loved it.

It is about a girl called Jade who gets lost in a museum while on a school trip. She went into an exhibition that wasn’t yet open. Jade felt annoyed, angry and sad because no one realised that she was missing. She was lost, lost physically and lost spiritually. She needed help.

In the closed exhibition Jade finds amazing women in history and goes on a journey to find who she is, with their help.

Four actors who play three to four different roles, including Mary Seacole, Agent Fifi, Jane Austen, Mary Anning and more. Another played Ann Frank.

The play has great songs. My favourite of ten songs was the opening number, called Quiet Children. I went to watch the school matinee which made the song, which was about naughty school children, even funnier.

The songs were energising and made you want to get up and dance and you also got to see the musicians playing on stage.

The stage was vibrant with bright lights that beamed at you in different colours, and the costumes showed each woman’s personality. My favourite was that of the artist Frida Kahlo, which was designed to show what looked like wings.

The play was laugh-out-loud funny, like when Jane Austen was poking out of a box.

It was also educational – I did know some stories but not all of their stories. Those featured include Seacole – the black nurse who helped injured soldiers in the Crimean War in the 1850s; novelist Jane Austen; and Ann Frank the victim of Nazi persecution.

One of the things I really liked and enjoyed was seeing the all female cast and all female musicians.

The play gets 10 out of 10 from me and I would definitely watch it again. I would recommend this play to all ages and especially to all females.

You can see the play on July 15-17. More info here.
