Local Stand-up Comedian Quincy, aka Cockney Prince, will be hosting a Newham celebration event on Saturday 25 June for Windrush Day 2022 which falls three days earlier.

Activities include: ancestry workshop with Paul Crooks, storytelling with Dominican born Jane Grell, reminiscence session, arts workshops, Caribbean tea, dominoes tournament, nail art, face painting and marketplace.

Quincy is featured in The Place for Me: Stories About the Windrush Generation, an illustrated book for readers aged 9+. He told Newham Voices:

“My story wasn’t just written for the Windrush Generation. It was written for a generation to keep the memory going of the Windrush Generation.”

The book features a foreword from Member of House of Lords and former Play School presenter Dame Floella Benjamin

Newham singer Crystxl King, the Reggae Choir and steel pans will be performing at the event on 25 June. The story about Crystxl’s song ‘Tried to Take My Daddy Away’ was previously featured in Newham Voices.

There will also be a Sakafet London fashion show

The celebration event will be held from 11am to 7pm at the Old Town Hall Stratford.
