About 1200 people in Newham responded to a Council survey targeting residents over fifty, offering the opportunity to respond online, by phone or in hard copy.
A follow up meeting that I attended on Zoom included calls for:
* A special handyman and gardener service.
* A booklet listing good people for those jobs.
* More reskilling programmes for older people
More than half of the people surveyed said they were not happy with social contacts. Concerns were expressed about lack of access to computers and there was support for joint activities and events involving both older and younger people, as well as calls for more predementia planning and dementia support.
It was also suggested that there should be an introductory and explanatory booklet on end of life documentation.
A draft Ageing and Wellbeing Strategy is scheduled for late January.
