Twelve children from Colegrave Primary School in Maryland, Stratford, got their hands dirty in a planting event organised by Maryland Community Group.
The 14 planters that were abandoned in Henniker Point got a new life thanks to these children and the generosity of local residents who have raised £200 and donated plants for the initiative.

Francis Owen, teacher at Colegrave Primary School who runs an extra-curriculum gardening club, said: “The kids loved the event and they got to learn even more about planting.”
The school children will return to the planters to manage and maintain them in the coming years.
Nick Monopoli, co-founder of Maryland Community Group, said:
“Teaching gardening to young people is very important for their mental health. The process is a calming experience.
“Besides, it brightens up the area, making it feel like a happier and more welcoming place to live.”
