Giving voters a voice

Newham Voices has been awarded a grant to campaign for greater participation in next year’s local elections.

The campaign will focus mainly on Canning Town South, the ward with the lowest voter turnout in the 2018 elections.

The grant has been awarded by the Public Interest News Foundation Impact Fund. It is part of a research project being run in five wards in London and Birmingham to measure the impact of local newspaper coverage on democratic participation.

Newham Voices publisher Aidan White said: “Canning Town South is on the threshold of massive change. It’s important that local people have as much information as possible to ensure their voice is heard when it comes to shaping their environment. We are delighted to have won this grant from PINF and we look forward to working with people in Canning Town South.”

Further details will be announced in January. If you would like to take part, contact info@newhamvoices.co.uk.
