Unity is the theme of the latest edition of Newham Unlocked Festival, an annual programme of cultural events and workshops funded by Newham Council.
The 2021 edition was curated and produced in partnership with the local organisations Rosetta Arts, Applecart Arts, Stratford East and Festival Org.
All activities are free and there are only two weeks left to enjoy.
There will be performances at Rathbone Market in Canning Town on Saturday, 9 October (1pm to 5pm) powered by Festival.org.
On Sunday, 10 October, there is a display of more than 40 artworks by Sylvie Belbouab, Farah Ishaq, Ada Jusic and Aisha Naim at the Memorial Community Church in Plaistow (12pm- 4pm).
The installation-performance ‘Exposure’ is taking place at Littlewood Theatre in Harold Road from 14 – 16 and 19 – 23 October (7.45pm). It’s a creation of the artist James Leadbitter and theatre designer Sascha Gilmour based on interviews with 47 Newham’s health workers about their experiences with the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It aims to offer a space for reflection and healing with audiences invited to enter and leave the space as they choose. Watch the trailer below.
Rosetta Arts is in charge of the closing weekend: a dance performance on Saturday, 16 October at Queen’s Market in Upton Park and a talent showcase on Sunday, 17 October at Plaistow Park; both from 12pm- 4pm.
