On Sunday 1 August over £3,500 was raised for Caritas Anchor House by a team of seven runners in the London Landmarks Half Marathon.
The Newham runners who fundraised for Caritas Anchor House were Andy Lewis, James Mackay, Jose Daniel, Andrea Thompson and Alexis Wilson.
Caritas Anchor House’s mission is to build hope, enable lasting change and end homelessness for people in East London. They provide accommodation and support to single homeless adults in Newham where 1 in 23 people have nowhere to live; this is the highest rate of homelessness in the country.

Andrea Thompson
“I have worked with many vulnerable homeless people and still do; this particular charity sits extremely close to my heart. I believe in helping others as we never know one day we may need lifting up.”
Andy Lewis
“I’m Deputy Head teacher at St Bonaventure’s, Forest Gate and have worked with Caritas Anchor House for many years via TELCO / Newham Citizens. Sadly I see the impact that housing issues have on the families at our school and wider community and so want to make sure we do everything we can to tackle the problem.”
James Mackay
“I was born and raised in Newham, and from an early age volunteered to help the (too) many homeless of our borough with the Franciscan Friars in Canning Town. I am proud to participate in the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for Caritas Anchor House, which works not just to provide materially for those most in need, but works with them so that they may grow in confidence and skill to support themselves.”
