Share your story of growing up in Newham

What is your strongest memory of being a teenager?

From first loves to first jobs, family holidays and Saturday hang outs, the Museum of Youth Culture is collecting memories and photographs of being young for an exhibition as part of Join the Docks.

Grown up in the Docks is a community archiving project which aims to document 100 years of being young in the Docks and wider Newham area. It will tell the story of growing up through memories, personal photographs, ephemera and oral histories from people who live in Newham today. The story will shine a light on the often untold history of the youth experience and will preserve an important part of local heritage.

Lisa der Weduwe, from the Museum of Youth Culture, says of the project:

We believe everyone has an important story to tell about being young, and that these stories can help us create a picture of a community and celebrate local heritage. We’d love you to go through your family albums and shoebox archives, and share your teen memories with us.

You can be part of the project by sharing your memories through a recorded oral history interview, or send your photographs of being a teenager. We are also running a free scanning service to help people digitise their photographs.

You can get in touch with the Museum of Youth Culture to share your stories by email: info@youthclubarchive.com
