Quincy’s Comedy Lounge Presents… A celebration of Windrush

For Black History Month 2019 Canning Town Comedian Quincy, aka the Cockney Prince, performed a successful comedy event in Canning Town library. However due to the current pandemic, the format of his routine this year had to be changed to fit in with Covid-19 guidelines.

He said:

I had to adapt to the room and improvise because of the government rules; a stand up show wouldn’t have worked with social distancing and face covering.

Instead of performing in front of a packed out crowd there was only an audience of 13 people; however it was filmed live for social media. Each table seated 3 at a social distance, a ndwe were advised to wear a face cover and sanitise our hands.

Quincy found the arrangement challenging because: “It was difficult to interact with the audience as I would normally do.”

We watched a short documentary featuring some West Indian women, who talked about their experiences moving to England during the Windrush period. Some stories were also told by young people. There was a quizand an opportunity for us to share some of our own stories.

Overall I felt comfortable within the Covid-19 environment. So, gradually perhaps more live events can start happening again.

Quincy has a show on Supreme FM Radio Mon 7am – 1pm Wed – Fri 10am – 1pm.
