1-31/Oct: Newham’s Black History Month

Due to the global covid-19 pandemic you can now be a part of Black History Month without leaving the comfort of your home, because a selection of free events will be taking place in the virtual world on the Newham Black History website, including discussions on Black Lives Matter, Cultural & Black Hair History, Poetry, Music, the achievements of Black People in Newham and the Windrush Generation story.

There are a few Black History Month live events and exhibitions taking place in different venues in Newham. These include:

  • An Adam Moore Create Long Play Liberation Dance Performance
  • The New Black Film Collective Black Films Matter screenings at the Stratford East Picture House
  • A workshop based on the photographic exhibition The Missing Chapter: Black Chronicles at Stratford Library
  • Library, Quincy’s Comedy Lounge presents Past, Present and Future at the Old Town Hall Stratford
  • Black History quiz at The Mix
  • A talk about Frank Bailey, the first Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) firemen in the UK. He was stationed at Silver Town fire station

There is also a selection of books about Black History available to buy from the Newham Bookshop.
