Newham Voices: Community News and Views

Welcome to Newham Voices – an independent news service for people who live and work in one of London’s most vibrant, diverse and exciting areas.

Created in the heat of the health emergency, Newham Voices is community-driven journalism aiming to provide Newham’s biggest and most comprehensive news and features, as well as a community journalism training programme.

We are an independent not-for-profit initiative owned and funded by our readers. Any money we make will be spent on production of our monthly newspaper, an online news service and a practical programme to help the people of Newham speak freely on all the issues that matter to them.

Newham Voices builds upon the explosion of solidarity, resilience and humanity that helped the people of Newham through the Covid-19 crisis.

We provide a platform for scores of community groups aiming to make a fresh start for a part of London that has for years endured with social inequality and neglect of its most vulnerable groups.

Newham Voices strives for partnership between a range of different stakeholders, but with a shared commitment to quality information based upon our core values of accuracy, fairness, independence, humanity and accountability.

Our news service brings neighbourhoods together and strengthens democracy across the borough through a combination of professional journalism with writing from people who live and work in the borough.

We hold the council, the police and the public authorities to account. We provide facts, reliable information, and give all sides of controversial stories so that people can make up their own minds.
