The London Borough of Newham is committed to delivering and promoting good governance. As part of that commitment, Newham has established an Audit Committee to review all of the Council’s arrangements for internal control, financial management and corporate governance.

The Audit Committee is comprised of elected members and 3 independent members, of which, 1 role is currently vacant.

Ideally, the independent member should offer a range of different skills and experience. The ideal candidate will be expert in financial control and management, possibly with an audit background.

Applications cannot be accepted from candidates if they are currently a Member, Co-opted Member, an Advisor to the Mayor of London Borough of Newham; employee; or a consultant to the authority in any capacity; or have been within the last 5 years; or if they are a relative or are a close friend of such a person.

Independent members should live or work in Newham. The Audit Committee is scheduled to meet approximately 8 times a year. Relevant training will be provided. An annual allowance will be paid of £565. Out of borough travel can be reimbursed. The term of office is two years with the possibility of extension for a further two years.
